Tasteful Typography Project

I used Microsoft Word to accomplish this project as shown below in the screenshot.

Process

I first found a quote that I wanted to do and then looked for an image that would go along with it. I wanted the message to be to inspirational that will help improve anyone who will look at it. My audience was geared towards busy bodies who hardly take time to enjoy life and only dreams of a future day when they can have fun. I then opened the image and placed it into Microsoft Word. From there I made different text boxes to go on the image, as well as design elements. I made sure that I had good contrast between my title and my body copy both in size and font. After I had the design that I liked, I exported the image as a PDF, and saved it as a JPG through Adobe Photoshop. I hope you enjoy the results!

Critique

I posted my rough draft on our class Facebook page for my classmates and teacher to critique. Through the critiques I was advised on where to place the text on the image, which was below the title. I also made the font size of my title smaller so I could place the body text beneath it.  Throughout all my critiques, I followed the one from my instructor the most, but since I had to move my text the color I originally had chosen to do would no longer work and therefore had to choose a different color to use.

I really like your image- the silhouette is so eye catching! The colors in the sunset are also very nice. The picture really does go well with your title– it seems to evoke joy just to look at it. I like the line and diamonds and how you used yellow- a color in the sunset. The placement of your text is good and it is easy to read. I think it is nice that you aligned the text left including the name of the author. The only thing I would do maybe would be to choose a different font for the title or not capitalize JOY. I personally don’t think it looks good to use a script font all caps. Well done! My project also used an ocean scene. Check it out: https://carriehuntblog.wordpress.com/2016/05/11/4a-tasteful-typography-project/

This is awesome, Charity! I really like the picture you used. It’s very eye-catching and I love that. I think you did a wonderful job working with the colors. Like Carrie mentioned, I would maybe try a different font. It’s a lot of fun to find and download fonts online. You aren’t restricted to just the ones you have automatically set on your computer, so play around with them! I can’t wait to see what else you create this semester! Whitney did something similar to yours with her use of lines.
